Psychotherapy for adults, teens, children, couples & family
I enjoy working with all populations from children to adults, since I believe that everyone passes through all the stages of life and each stage is connected to and overlaps previous ones. Also, inside an adult is always a child and that child affects this adult; this is the circle of life.
I specialize in working with clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck in place, or unsure how to get through life now, how to handle their symptoms of depression, anxiety, loss, grief, or family change. However, you don’t have to do it alone, since we can work together to process through the "stuck" to develop new hope and clarity of vision. I will collaborate with you to push past barriers, trauma, reframe limiting beliefs, develop new coping skills, and reduce your symptoms to reach your goals and achieve your full potential.
My other specialty and passion is working with individuals or families who are multicultural, multiracial, or bilingual and who have issues related to raising their children in multiple cultures, or who have issues of acculturation, immigration or reunification. I'm fully bilingual (English/Spanish) and multicultural since I was born and raised in Peru but went to college here.
My clients describe my approach as calm, caring, warm, supportive, enthusiastic, non-judgmental, creative and practical, which lets them feel comfortable in individual, couple or family sessions, and maximizes their potential to achieve their goals.
I began my professional career working for a county Adult Protective Services department, where I provided crisis intervention, assessment, and short-term case management. I then decided to focus more on mental health services and so I went to work as a therapist in a local outpatient clinic, and I have been providing therapy for more than 15 years.
When I am not providing therapy or reading books about therapy, I love to spend time with my family, including my spouse, two young adult children, and my two cats. I also love to cook and experiment with new recipes.
